HFU-Hochschule Furtwangen
As numerous surveys have shown, those who study at Furtwangen University receive a top rated education.
Furtwangen University developed from the ‘Großherzoglich Badische Uhrmacherschule’ (Archduke of Baden Clockmakers‘ School), founded in 1850, to the ‘Staatliche Ingenieurschule für Feinwerktechnik’ (the State Engineers‘ School for Mechatronics) in 1947. In 1963, the range of study programs was extended to include Electrical Engineering, and in 1968, Computer Science was added as the first program of its kind in Germany. Strong demand led to the foundation of a second campus in Villingen-Schwenningen in 1988, when the Mechanical Engineering and International Business Faculties were added. With Tuttlingen the Furtwangen university opens a third campus by the end of 2009.
Today Furtwangen University offers a 18 bachelor and 9 master’s in the field of computer sciences, business, engineering, media and technology.
We are situated in the heart of Europe, close to France, Switzerland and Lake Constance, an area home to many global players including Porsche, Daimler, SAP and Hugo Boss.
We are proud of the numerous awards we have received for the uniqueness of our study programs: In May 2006 and 2008 the International Business program received first place in a survey among the largest international corporations in Germany assessing the “employability” of students.
In addition the university has won the prestigious prize annual awarded by the German Foreign Ministry and the DAAD for outstanding quality in International Student Support.

Campus
Furtwangen University has two campuses with a third campus currently in planning. The original location which gives he university its name is in Furtwangen. Five of our seven faculties, comprising about two thirds of our student body, are based there. The second location is in Villingen-Schwenningen, where the Faculty of International Business as well as the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering, are based. These two faculties account for about one third of Furtwangen University‘s students.
Villingen-Schwenningen
In 1972 the town in its present form came into existence with the merger of the two formerly independent towns of Villingen and Schwenningen. Schwenningen was at one time the booming centre of the German clock industry with the headquarters of many well-known manufacurers located here. The world-famous clock and watch manufacturers Kienzle and Junghans both originated here. Hard times hit when the clock industry was revolutionized with the start of the digital age. Villingen-Schwenningen has a lively centre with shops, cafes and restaurants in an attractive pedestrian area and it now boasts three universities. Interestingly enough, Furtwangen University is actually housed in an old clock factory!

Student_union
ISC (International Student Community) is a student organization within the AStA(student union). ISC helps to bring together students studying at HFU from other countries and German students who seek to study abroad or who have returned from a semester abroad, or German students who just want to get to know their international fellow students.
Throughout each semester ISC hosts various events. Having a strong relationship with the International Center ISC completes the International Center’s program of events and excursions for international and German students.
The ISC organizes social events and trips for international and German students. Its goal is to bring different cultures together and create a platform for international exchange. ISC tries to provide for a fun and relaxing atmosphere in which members may meet each other and make friends across different cultures.
The ISC depends on its members for all activities! It is free to join, and the possibilities for your active role are limitless.
As a German student you may want to take your international fellow students to a nice place in the area and show them around.
As an international student you might want to give a presentation about your country, do some home made cooking, or show your German fellow students how to dance… Anything is possible.
