Research MP in Social Sciences
The Research Masterīs Programme in Social Sciences is a new postgraduate programme offered by three departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences, namely the departments of Social Policy, Social Psychology and Sociology.
It is a full-time, two-year integrated study programme, and the entire programme is held on location in Helsinki. The programme consists of minimum of 120 credits, equalling 120 ECTS points.
The programme provides the students with skills in both quantitative and qualitative social research methods, as well as knowledge on classical and contemporary theories in sociology, social psychology or social policy.
The students will choose one out of three specialisation lines in social research. The options include:
1) Urban studies
2) Values, power and morality in contemporary society
3) Actors, Practices and Institutions in Welfare Society
The intake to the programme is maximum 14 new international students per annum.
The students who have graduated from the programme have the right to apply for doctoral studies at the Finnish and foreign universities. It gives a solid ground to apply for working positions at Finnish and International companies and public sector. In addition, it gives the students means and tools to apply for a researcherīs career.
The entire programme is held in English language and is primarily meant for international applicants. However, also applicant whose mother tongue is either Finnish or Swedish may apply and be accepted, but if elected, they must take the courses included in the programme. Should they want to apply to study with the Finnish or Swedish language degree requirements, they have to apply via the Graduate Admission of the Faculty.
