University of Tartu
Founded in 1632, the University of Tartu is the largest and most comprehensive public university in Estonia. Today it has 17000 students and is famous for research-based education and lively student traditions.
The University of Tartu has 10 faculties, 5 colleges and several specialized research institutes.
The University of Tartu today is in the top 1% of most-cited universities and scientific institutions in the world in fields of environmental sciences, ecology, clinical medicine, plant & animal science. It is the only Baltic member of the Coimbra group, uniting reputable European research universities of long-standing traditions.
Every year more than 600 international students study in university’s international Master, semester and summer programmes instructed in English.

The city
The unique university town of Tartu feels like one big campus, augmenting the overall experience and making it memorable and truly European.
Tartu has a population of 100 000 people.
About 30% of Tartu's inhabitants are students in higher education and many more are connected to education in some way.
Tartu recieved city rights in 1224. It is a picteresque city nested on the banks of the river Emajõgi.
Tartu is located 2,5 hours from Tallinn, the caüital of Estonia, with bus service available every 30 minutes. English and Russian are spoken widely.

Tartu is Estonia’s second largest city, with 100 000 people, and a true university town. Tartu is a safe and beautiful town to live in, with plenty of history to explore and social life to enjoy.

The University of Tartu itself has a long history of student festivals and traditions. Spring and Autumn Student Days are filled with concerts, contests, tours, and special events and are a definite highlight of every
academic year.
More social events and trips are organized by the Erasmus Student Network (www.esn.ee).
Choirs, clubs, the student theater and university sports complex are
open to participation by all students.
Accomodations
All international students are housed in a modern student dorm in the centre of town, within walking distance from most study buildings, the university´s main administration building, Town Hall Square
and most places of entertainment.
The dormitory building consists of units with 3 study bedrooms, equipped with kitchen and bathroom. Students share a twin room with another international student.
The dormitory has a cafeteria and laundry facilities . Internet in the room is available for a small fee. Free wireless internet is available in the first floor lobby.
