Aalto University, School of Science and Technology is the largest, the most diversified and the oldest university of its kind in Finland. Aalto University, School of Science and Technology has 15,000 students and a staff of about 3,000 people. It was founded in 1849 and achieved university status in 1908. High-level scientific research, postgraduate education, close contact with industry, and interdisciplinary cooperation in research and education (e.g. between technology and biology, medicine and economics) are strongly emphasized.
