The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering provides a research-based
education focusing on the technical and environmental sciences. Students will learn
how to develop sustainable solutions to complicated societal problems, while taking
account of environmental, resource-based, legal and economic considerations.
The MSc in Environmental Engineering is a broad, interdisciplinary and applied degree
with the opportunity to specialize in many different types of environmental problem.
Specializations include methods for dealing with waste and sewage from cities or industry or for decontaminating soil and groundwater. Methods and tools to reduce the environmental impact of industry can be investigated.

Questions related to the use of natural resources, for example groundwater resources
and drinking-water production, can be considered. Courses can be taken in environmentally sustainable manufacturing, town planning, occupational health and safety,
environmental regulation and environmental management. Courses related to environmental problems in developing countries are also available.
The emphasis of the degree is on understanding the physical, chemical and biological
processes underlying the environmental problems that society faces. You will work on
experimental projects and gain insight into processes through mathematical models or
statistical analysis of measured data. You will learn problem-solving techniques that are aimed at avoiding and minimizing environmental impact.

Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Science obtained at an internationally recognized university.

Grade point average.
At least 70-75% of the maximum obtainable grade. Can vary depending on the grading system of the university having awarded the Bachelor degree.

Environmental Engineering – study lines

Environmental Technology

Our industrialized society uses up resources and causes pollution of water, air and soil.
There is a need to develop and establish technologies that can minimize the impact of
such contamination. For example, technologies are required to ensure the safety of our
drinking-water supply systems. At the same time, there is a need to develop systems
for handling the waste streams of society, for example by using waste to generate energy via thermal or biological processes, or designing systems for reducing emissions.

Water Resources

Our degree program in water resources considers the physical, chemical and biological
processes that govern the hydrological cycle. This includes the chemical transformation,
flow and transport of contaminants in rivers, soil and groundwater. For example, one could research the geochemical processes that govern the interaction between minerals and water in natural and human-impacted aquatic environments, such as groundwater.

Environmental Management

Environmental management considers methods and strategies for planning and leadership to ensure sustainable use of resources, protection of the environment and safety in the workplace. Courses consider theories and methods to analyze the technological, economic, ethical and cultural aspects of environmental problems. There is a need for a systematic mapping, prevention and cleanup of impacts on the environment and on resources and workplaces caused by manufacturing processes and products. Tools for this task include lifecycle analysis.

State Scholarships are given to a group of Non-EU/EEA citizens and Company Sponsorships are given to a group of EU/EEA citizens.
