Master’s Degree Programme in Embedded Computing
This two year programme is designed to prepare its graduates challenging design tasks in the Embedded Systems Industry.
The programme contains course given by both Åbo Akademi and University of Turku in the areas of Embedded Systems.
The programme leads to a Master of Science in Technology degree (diplomingenjör). When graduating the students will have a both a good understanding of theoretical issues for starting PhD studies, as well as practical competences for a successful career as a designer in industry.
Study Environment
The Department of Information Technology is situated in the Turku Science Park, in the ICT building, where research groups and academic programmes meet, interact and collaborate with ICT companies – many of which are multinational and well known (Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, etc.). The study facilities are brand-new and equipped with the latest technology.

The Nordic iCT joint programme
The Nordic Master Programme in Innovative ICT is one of the pilot projects awarded by the Nordic Council of Ministers in June 2007, designed to lead to implementation in fall 2008. It is coordinated by the Turku Centre for Computer Science (TUCS) and has a consortium of six partner universities (Åbo Akademi University, the University of Turku, the Turku School of Economics, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and the Technical University of Denmark) that all provide higher education in ICT.
NMP offers in addition to the education the partners provide, a joint Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) study module, which is given especially for students participating in NMP iCT.
NMP iICT utilises the existing international Master programmes that the partners already provide and it is additional cooperation between the partner universities. At Åbo Akademi University the NMP is part of the Master’s Degree Programme in Embedded Computing. Applicants apply to the Embedded Computing programme and once they have been admitted and initiated the studies, they can choose to take the NMP study track.
Mobility is not an obligatory part of the NMP studies, but it’s highly recommended that the students take advantage of this possibility.
The Centre for Reliable Software Technology (CREST) is a reserch center at the Department of Information Technologies. Its research is focused on the development and analysis of software intensive systems and on the use of software based research paradigms in systems modeling and development. CREST's key competencies are in formal methods for software development, construction of embedded systems, software processes, high performance and energy efficient computing, systems biology, data mining and CS education. Since its founding in 2002, CREST has been appointed National Centre of Excellence by the Academy of Finland for the years 2002-2007. CREST has a worldwide network of researchers and industrial companies.
In this programme typically the masters thesis is written in research projects in collaboration with companies in the Finnish ICT sector (Nokia, Elektrobit, etc.).
